National Youth Orchestra

Over the holidays, 4 Camden students attended their first National Youth Orchestra residential course of the year.

The intense rehearsal period was followed by fantastic concerts in the Barbican Centre, London and Warwick Arts Centre.

Congratulations to CSG musicians Dora, Jess, Hugo and Lotte on this fantastic achievement!

Year 7 Docklands Competition

After Year 7's trip to the Docklands we asked them to produce a creative piece of work at home. We had an overwhelming response and were blown away by the thoughtful work that we received. It was tough to judge but the winners are:

1) Elsa 7T for her beautiful poem written along the skyline of the Docklands.

GCSE Latin and Classics trips to the British  Museum

On Monday 2 November, the Y10 and Y11 GCSE Classical Civilisation classes joined forces for a visit to the British Museum, to attend a talk about the Parthenon, the temple to Athena built on the Acropolis in Athens in the 5th century BC.

We learnt a lot about the friezes and metopes on the temple, particularly focusing on the depiction of women in this incredibly important and beautiful piece of art. We enjoyed visiting the Parthenon marbles and the Bassae frieze and spotting the details we had explored in the flesh. While we were at the BM, we popped into the Mycenaean galleries to explore the pottery and metalwork artefacts left behind by the mysterious proto-Greek and to consider how best to piece together a picture of the world in which this fascinating civilisation flourished. We are so lucky to have this incredible museum on our doorstep - after our very efficient morning visit, we were able to be back at school (almost!) in time for our afternoon lessons!

On Monday 11 November, the GCSE Latin classes went on a trip to the British Museum. We first visited one of the Roman galleries, where we examined some artefacts that shed light onto Roman lifestyles and day to day activities, such as jewellery and coins. Unfortunately, the day we went, many of the Roman galleries were closed to the public, but this meant we could spend more time looking at the galleries that were available to us. After that, we went into an auditorium where we were given a talk by a museum educator called Francesca.

The talk covered lots of aspects of Roman culture, from entertainment to the structure of Roman housing, and was very interesting. Francesca also had lots of fascinating facts to share about her speciality, Roman coins. After the talk, we visited some more galleries where we saw more Roman artefacts as well as items from other classical civilisations.

Thank you so much to Francesca for the talk, and to Ms Maguire and Mr Beecroft for bringing us on this wonderful trip!

Photography competition for secondary school students

North London Waste Authority are inviting Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students (ages 11 to 16) to capture a moment of nature's resilience over the festive period and in the new year. This could be nature reclaiming a space or recovering from human interference.
The competition opened on 9 December and runs until 5pm on Thursday 30 January 2025.

For more information and how to get involved, visit NLWA’s Education Hub. The winning photograph will be professionally printed and displayed on the wall of EcoPark House in Edmonton, north London. An A2 copy will be produced for the school to display and a smaller copy for the photographer to take home. A £250 voucher for school supplies will be awarded to the student’s school, as well as a bag of reusable goodies.
