Year 9 Fresh Pasta Making

Year 9 have been learning about the importance of pasta as a staple food in helping families keep costs down in meal preparation.

They also explored how a failed attempt at securing investment from the Dragon’s Den in 2018 has gone from strength to strength, delivering boxes of authentic, freshly made Italian pasta straight to your doorstep.

Students made lengths of beautifully elastic pasta dough and experimented with making tagliatelle, farfalle and tortellini. Making fresh pasta is a fun and unique skill to develop and making it at home is a much more cost-effective way of enjoying fresh pasta!

 ….is just around the corner, on Friday 21^st June, 6-9pm

There will be food, drinks, games, festival makeup & glitter tattoos and a raffle, as well as Battle of the Bands and Best Pet.

Entry is free (or a £2 suggested donation - every penny goes to enrich the pupils’ education).

Boxing Trip

On Wednesday, the Boxing Club went on a trip to The Islington Boxing Centre. We got the chance to meet some amazing female boxing coaches and boxers. We had an intense 2 hour training session and had a lot of fun.

We tried many different workouts and drills to work on our boxing, strength and speed. After training, we had a Q&A session with the boxers, and they told us some very interesting things about their boxing experiences and careers. It was very interesting to see what they thought and how passionate they were. We hope to see them again soon!

Now here is Goldie Y12, explaining the task and her poem:
“This was a dialogic poetry task where we had to create a poem that could be read in multiple ways, both vertically and horizontally, changing the poem’s perspective depending on how you read it. I was especially proud of this one, since it was challenging to work on both poems at the same time, keeping them connected but still separate.”

DofE Awards

These students did an early training session for the Bronze award DofE. Unlike the rest of the expedition group who are doing their day of training on the 28 June, we went on Wednesday so that they could enter a competition as finalists in a national event.

What did we do? We walked the Heath finding out that compasses have a limited use in guiding us. Trees get in the way, so do ponds and hedges. There were tick points, handrails and areal features for us all to get our heads around. We walked over 8000 steps, made 100ms of ascent and managed to eat a little lunch before getting back to school 10 minutes late, so sorry staff.
